Reunion Weekend

September 11–13, 2009

The Arts and Sciences alumni societies had their Reunion Weekend on September 11-13, 2009 will be the university’s Reunion Weekend.


Spring 2008 Alumni Event

Thursday, May 15

OSU Urban Arts Space, 50 W Town St
in the historic Lazarus building, Columbus

Alumni and friends of the College of the Arts attended our 2008 General Alumni Meeting and Gallery Reception at the new OSU Urban Arts Space downtown from 5 to 6:30 pm Thursday, May 15. The event was hosted by Karen Bell, dean, and Mary Hickey, Arts Alumni Society president.

The galleries featured the 2008 Master of Fine Arts: Thesis Exhibition featuring the artwork of 30 MFA students from all areas in the Department of Art, including photography, painting and drawing, sculpture, ceramics, glass, art & technology, and printmaking.

The evening event included:
• Alumni gathering and vote on board officers.
• Gallery talk by Sergio Soave, chair, Department of Art,
and Michael Mercil, professor of art.
• Self-guided tours with current MFA exhibitors.
• Student Glass Club sale.
• Refreshments.


Winter 2008 Alumni Event
Urban Arts Space Grand Opening

50 W. Town St, Lazarus Building, downtown Columbus

Alumni and friends of the College of the Arts attended the Grand Opening Celebration of our new OSU Urban Arts Space downtown Friday, Feb 8 from 5:30 to 8 pm. The brand-new exhibition and performance space is opening in the former Lazarus building at Town and High Streets. The event was hosted by Karen Bell, Dean. Remarks were made by Bell, OSU President Gordon Gee, and Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman.

The Feb 8 event also celebrated the opening of the space's inaugural exhibition, Midnight Robbers: The Artists of Notting Hill Carnival, a showcase of costumes, photographs, drawings, video and an interactive computer program exploring the Carnival in London. Co-curated by Lesley Ferris, Department of Theatre, and Ruth Tompsett, British Carnival scholar, it takes a close look at the Carnival celebration, the British slavery legacy and Carnival artists. Also viewed, Linking the Past to the Future, a look at the historic Lazarus building.

The evening featured live music from OSU Percussion Ensemble, entertainment from Kristina Isabelle Dance & HighJinks, informal gallery tours and a cash bar. All graduates and friends of the college (art, art education, history of art, design, dance, music, theatre and accad) were invited to attend.

 


 

Fall 2007 Alumni Event
Faculty Art on View

Alumni and friends of the College of the Arts were invited to our fall get together—a reception to celebrate the Department of Art Faculty Exhibitions on Thursday, Nov 15. The exhibition featured work of Carmel Buckley, sculpture; Robert Ladislas Derr, photography; and Ardine Nelson, photography. Also on view was “Thoughts on Color,” an exhibition by the entire Art faculty that revealed their individual approaches and relationships to color: Terry Barrett, Mary Jo Bole, Carmel Buckley, Alison Crocetta, Alan Crockett, Malcolm Cochran, Robert Ladislas Derr, Sean Foley, Ann Hamilton, Richard Harned, Rebecca Harvey, Harris Kagan, Scot Kaplan, Michael Mercil, Laura Lisbon, Charles Massey, Jr., Tony Mendoza, Ardine Nelson, Ken Rinaldo, Dan Schellanbarger, Sergio Soave, Todd Slaughter, John Thrasher, Steve Thurston, Ed Valentine, Pheoris West and Amy Youngs.


 

OSU Reunion Weekend 2007

September 7–9, 2007
On September 8, 2007 Alumni of the College of the Arts and Sciences gathered for food, friends and fun at the annual Arts and Sciences Alumni Tailgate before the Buckeyes kicked off against the University of Akron. The tailgate was held at the Derby Hall Plaza on the north side of the Oval and featured traditional tailgate food, music and entertainment, and a silent auction.

The tailgate party is part of OSU Reunion Weekend 2007—three days of alumni events at Ohio State. A kick off brunch started off the weekend at 10 am on Friday, Sept. 7, and a wrap-up breakfast concluded the festivities at 10 am on Sunday, Sept. 5.


Arts Alumni Event: Play Ball!

The Ohio State University College of the Arts' new Alumni Society hosted a day out at an OSU baseball game for alumni and their families. Graduates of the college (art, art education, history of art, design, dance, music, theatre and accad) attended. Attendees sat together in a block of seats at Bill Davis Stadium for the 1:05 pm OSU vs Michigan State baseball game.
