Mission Statement, Purpose, and Vision

Mission Statement
The mission of the OSU Urban Arts Space is to create a venue for the presentation of student, alumni, faculty and visiting artists’ research and creative work in the visual and performing arts.  The space will be used for exhibitions, opportunities for performance work in a nontraditional setting and educational programming for the university and broader Columbus community.

Purpose
The mission of the College of the Arts is to “provide an atmosphere of learning that deepens understanding and nurtures creativity in the visual and performing arts.” We seek for our students a future that is adventurous and entrepreneurial, one in which they embrace new challenges and new knowledge. We want to inspire and prepare students to lead creative and intellectually flexible lives, however they choose to pursue their passion. 

Our strength in collaborating with the broader Columbus community is essential to our mission. Community partnerships with the public, private and nonprofit sectors, and in particular local schools, enable our students to have an impact beyond the campus classroom. The entrepreneurial culture we are building reflects our commitment to offer students transforming experiences that expand their worldview, giving them the opportunity to gain professional experience and develop new skills for their careers.  By opening a new door to Ohio State and contributing to the revitalization of downtown, our students, alumni, and visiting artists will have unique opportunities to develop and exercise the skills necessary for a life-long practice in the arts. 

Vision
At the OSU Urban Arts Space, the College of the Arts envisions a vibrant, lively arts center in downtown Columbus that serves as the launching pad for our students and a creative venue for faculty, visiting artists and alumni.  Programming in the space will be designed to engage the central Ohio community in new and exciting ways with visual and performing arts.
