Visiting Artists/New Faculty

Wednesday, September 20th – Thursday, October 12th

Opening Reception: Monday, September 25th, 5–7pm

This exhibit welcomes new assistant professor Suzanne Silver, painting and drawing; senior lecturers Sean Foley, painting and drawing, and Dan Shellenbarger, art and technology; emeritus professor Larry Shineman, painting and drawing; and special guest artist Talle Bamazi, painting and drawing. Works by Columbus-based visiting lecturersr in the Department of Art Foundation Program, including Michael Litzau, Ryan Agnew, Kristin Desiderio, Valerie Devitt-Escabedo, Jamie Kennedy, and Katie Parker, are also presented.

Department of Art Faculty Exhibition

Monday, October 16th – Thursday, November 2nd

Opening Reception: Monday, October 16th, 5–7pm

This year's faculty exhibition includes new work by associate professors Ken Rinaldo and Steve Thurston, created during their sabbaticals in 2005–06. Rinaldo's interactive Spider Bots, a cluster of human-responsive robotic spiders, first presented in England last spring, are shown along with process-revealing digital prints and experimental rapid-prototypes integral to his current research. “Re-examining the quixotic ideals of 19th century romantics through the use of new technologies,” Thurston's architecturally-scaled forms in The Origins of Allegories—The Myopic Series contain computer-milled plaster negatives inlaid with sepia-toned wax-reliefs used to establish a sense of “timelessness and ethereal mood.”

Portraits of the Presidents

Tuesday, November 7th – Friday, December 1st

Opening Reception: Tuesday, November 14th, 5–7pm

In the grand tradition of universities, a portrait is commissioned at the end of a president's term. The Ohio State University's Board of Trustees, beginning with President Edward Orton (1873–1881) and continuing through William English (Brit) Kirwin (1998–2001), have commissioned 12 portraits—on view together for the first time—in Portraits of the Presidents.
