The inaugural exhibition at the Urban Arts Space is Midnight Robbers: The Artists of Notting Hill Carnival. This groundbreaking exhibition—which premiered in London at London City Hall last fall—is curated by OSU Theatre Professor Lesley Ferris and Ruth Tompsett from Middlesex University in England. The exhibition explores the historic context of the London Carnival and looks closely at the Carnival art form. Revealing the power and artistry of Europe’s largest and most spectacular street performance, the London exhibition commemorated the 200th year since the abolition of the British slave trade.

The exhibition showcases the work of Carnival artists, and includes photographs, costume designs, costumes and a timeline of Carnival history. It also includes Carnival Interactive, a multi-media computer program developed by a student design team under the leadership of OSU Design faculty member Brian Stone.

For additional information, call (614) 292-8861.

The exhibition is generously supported by the Arts Council of England, Mayor of London, Ohio Arts Council, Greater London Arts Council and The Ohio State University.
