Luke Yankee grew up in the midst of showbiz history and is coming to town to “dish” about the major divas in his life. Yankee will visit The Ohio State University to present his one-man show, Diva Dish, a loving tribute to his mother, Oscar-winning actress and OSU alumna Eileen Heckart.
The masterful storyteller will present three performances of the celebrity gossip-filled Diva Dish at 7:30 pm Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22, and at 2 pm Sunday, April 23 in Roy Bowen Theatre, Drake Performance Center, 1849 Cannon Dr on the OSU campus.
In addition, Yankee will be signing copies of his new book—Just Outside the Spotlight—at 2 pm Saturday, April 22, at Lennox Town Center Barnes and Noble bookstore.
Diva Dish is a multi-media theatrical event that includes behind-the-scenes tales of stars like Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich, Ethel Merman, Lyndon B. Johnson, Sophia Loren, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Carole Channing and many more, accompanied by video clips and photos. Yankee is an actor and director who lives in Los Angeles, Palm Springs and New York, and created Diva Dish after his mother died two years ago.
Eileen Heckart, Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Golden Globe winner, grew up in Columbus and graduated from Ohio State’s Department of Theatre. She received an honorary doctorate from the university, and returned as a guest artist for several productions at OSU. She also is a major contributor to the Lawrence and Lee Theatre Research Institute, which possesses all of her papers and manuscripts.
The production of Diva Dish serves as a benefit for the Eileen Heckart Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides books and supplies for OSU theatre students in need.
