Dance Downtown is OSU’s biggest dance performance of the year, spotlighting new choreography by talented dance faculty, a Mark Morris reconstruction and all music performed live by the ProMusica String Quartet. It will be staged at 8 pm Thursday, May 4 – Saturday, May 6 in the Riffe Center’s Capitol Theatre, 77 S. High St.

Selections in the show include:
Matinée Idylls, choreographed by Victoria Uris in collaboration with the nine dancers. A fun, rhythmic piece in five movements. Music is Henry Cowell’s String Quartet #4.

Unnamed work choreographed by Melanie Bales, accompanied by Luigi Boccherini’s String Quartet in D, Op 6, No 1. The three movements reference the late Baroque/rococo period.

All Fours, choreographed by Mark Morris (2003) and directed by Valarie Mockabee from the Labanotation score. Set to Béla Bartók’s String Quartet No 4, the piece captures the tension, clarity and speed of the music in five stunning sections.

Resistance lessened or increased and taken, choreographed by Bebe Miller in collaboration with the cast of eight. The title, taken from Jorie Graham’s poem, “The Way Things Work”, reflects the constant unfolding of physical relationships that shape the piece, performed to J.S. Bach’s Chaconne from Partita #2 in D Minor for solo violin.
