Students Gear Up for
Summer Abroad

Forget the lazy days of summer lounging around a pool! Some College of the Arts students are packing their bags for study trips to such far-flung destinations as Europe and South America.

Twelve Art Education students will head to Brazil in June with Professors Vesta Daniel and Christine Ballengee-Morris. For this second study-abroad trip the group will study in the visual arts department at the Federal University of Goias, and will work with students and faculty there as well as with children, local artists and museums.

More than 20 undergraduate and graduate students are heading to England for five weeks starting Aug 5 for the London Theatre Program, headed by Lesley Ferris, theatre professor. The students—most of whom are from Theatre—will study contemporary British theatre and the London Carnival. This is the fifth time the London program has been offered since 2000.

And a group of current and former Music students will travel to the Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria, in August with William Conable, professor. Conable, a cellist who has been active in the festival for a decade, says the group will perform the Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass and the Beethoven Missa Solemnis along with various chamber works in the historic venues for which they were originally written.
