Summertime!
Young Students Come to Campus for Camps and Workshops

Ohio State may slow down in the summer with fewer classes and a big drop in the number of college students around. But it brings an increased number of younger students—and their teachers—to the university for camps, seminars and workshops. The College of the Arts offers opportunities for young people to brush up on their musical skills and experience new technology. Here’s a look at some of our summer activities:

Digital Animation:
A Technology Mentoring Program for Young Women

This free, two-week summer experience for high school girls allows them to work with women mentors from OSU’s Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD). They will investigate technology through the creative applications of computer-generated animation and web media in the program, which runs June 19–30. This will be the fifth summer the program has been offered.

Morning String Student Workshop for students in grades 4–8
June 12–28, includes instrument playing skill development, motivational activities, chamber music and large orchestra experience.

Flute Workshop
A popular event for high school students, the flute camp offers four days of private lessons, master classes and small ensembles, and is scheduled June 18–22.

Jazz Camp
A five-day camp immerses high school students in jazz in a fun-filled environment, which includes combo and big band performances, master classes, jazz history
and improvisation, arranging and more.

String Camp for high school students
June 25–29, focuses on improving playing skills, chamber music and orchestra.

High School Summer Band Clinic
June 25–July 1, offers high school band
students small and large ensemble experience and conducting.

String Teacher Workshop
July 9–15, offers more than 80 sessions addressing all aspects of string teaching.
