Peter Kozma
Named Opera Director

Peter Kozma, an opera stage director originally from Hungary, has been named opera director in the School of Music. Kozma—who comes to campus from the Minnesota Opera, where he was resident artist stage director—says he is happily anticipating working with the students at Ohio State. “I immensely enjoy working with young artists at the beginning of their careers,” he says. “It's exciting to share in their sense of discovery.”

Kozma looks forward to the opportunities that await him. “On the one hand, there is a challenge to maintain the quality of this existing opera program,” he says. “On the other, we have a window opening to us—where can we go from here? How can we meet the challenges of this new century, attract new audiences and help students find new opportunities?”

Kozma earned his master of music degree in opera stage directing at the University of Texas at Austin and is currently working on his doctorate. While completing his undergraduate degree in voice performance at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, he founded the Ars Classica Chamber Opera, where he produced and directed numerous productions. He has also worked with the Hungarian State Opera, the Miskolc Summer Festival, Wolf Trap Opera and Des Moines Metro Opera.
