Before coming to OSU in 1986, Professor Ellis performed in the US Military Academy Band and served as director of bands at Price Laboratory School at the University of Northern Iowa. His research into music learning has appeared in the JOURNAL OF RESEARCH IN MUSIC EDUCATION, PSYCHOLOGY OF MUSIC, SOUTHWESTERN JOURNAL OF MUSIC EDUCATION, and CONTRIBUTIONS. He was named the winner of the Award for Excellence in Scholarship by the Mansfield campus in 1992, and was voted Outstanding Teacher by Mansfield students in 1998. As assistant dean at OSU-Mansfield, Professor Ellis supervises academic advising, admissions and financial aid, career services, and student activities, and is responsible for institutional research.
