Areas of Expertise
• Viola performance
Edward Adelson, professor of viola, received his training at the Eastman
School of Music and Yale University. A student of Francis Tursi and Raphael
Hillyer, he has given master classes and performed recitals in Europe
and throughout the United States. As a member of Duo Contemporain, Professor
Adelson has premiered a number of new works for viola and piano. From
1990 to 1998, he was a member of the artist faculty of the Interlochen
Arts Camp, and has participated in the Spoleto, Blossom, Norfolk, and
Manitou Music Festivals. He also has been a faculty member of the International
Workshops held in France, Scotland, and Austria. Professor Adelson is
past president of the American String Teachers Association, past president
of the Ohio String Teachers Association, and a member of the Music Teachers
National Association National Convention Planning Committee and National
Pedagogy Committee. He is an active clinician, having presented workshops
and master classes at the Mid-West International Band and Orchestra Clinic,
at numerous state Music Educator Association meetings and summer teacher
workshops, and at national teaching association conventions. He was awarded
The Ohio State University Colleges of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Teacher
Award in 1999, as well as the School of Music Distinguished Teaching Award
in 1993.
