Area of Expertise
• 20th century European art
Professor Florman, a specialist in late-nineteenth and early-twentieth-century
European art, is particularly interested in Cubism, Surrealism, and the
varied conceptions of the 'classical' in the modern world. In addition
to offering courses on those topics, she has also taught graduate-level
seminars on the theoretical and historical foundations of the discipline,
as well as on the art of Cezanne, Picasso, Klee, and l'informe. She is
the author of MYTH AND METAMORPHOSIS: PICASSO'S 'CLASSICAL' PRINTS OF
THE 1930S (MIT Press, 2000), and various articles appearing in THE ENCYCLOPEDIA
OF AESTHETICS, THE ART BULLETIN, OCTOBER and elsewhere.
