Csuri integrated the fields of art and science and created an industry
of his own invention in 1964. The results of his research have been applied
to flight simulators, computer-aided design, scientific visualization,
magnetic resonance imaging, distance education and special effects for
television and film. Professor Csuri's early research team of artists
and engineers formed the Computer Graphics Research Group (CGRG), and
developed the basis for Ohio State University's Advanced
Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD). His work is in many
prominent collections including the Museum of Modern Art in New York,
and The Computer Museum in Boston, and has been featured on the cover
of SMITHSONIAN MAGAZINE. Professor Csuri, considered the pioneer of computer
art, was the recipient of the 2000 Governor's Award for Individual Artist
in the State of Ohio, and The Ohio State University's highest honor, the
Sullivant Medal. A major retrospective of his work, Charles A. Csuri:
In Search of Meaning, exhibited March-April 2000 at The Columbus College
of Art and Design. A simultaneous exhibition of contemporary works, Virtual
Glass, exhibited at the Riley Hawk Gallery, Columbus.
